A popular US initiative backed by Barack Obama and whole host of celebrities is being launched in Britain by the Shadow Business Secretary Chukka Umunna.
Held just after Thanksgiving, “Small Business Saturday” has been one of the busiest shopping days of the year in the US for the past three years. It boosted spending on independent retailers by an amazing $5.5bn (£3.6bn) over Christmas last year.
Mr Umunna confirmed that the inaugural UK Small Business Saturday will take place on December 7th this year and that several business organisations including the British Chambers of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses have signed up to take part.
It’s a difficult time for the UK High Street right now with an average of one in seven shops empty. Do you think this special event will be the kick start it needs?
