Infographic: US Unskilled Labour

There is currently a 7.3% unemployment rate in the US – that’s 11.6 million people attempting to fill an estimated 3.7 million jobs, or more simply put – three people for every one job.

If all of those jobs were filled it would take the unemployment rate under 5%, but the problem is that those who are out of work do not have the right skills. Many jobs today require more skills than at any time in history. Back in 1973, only 28% of jobs required a post-secondary education but by 2010 that figure was 59% and the amount of workers with that degree of education is simply not increasing at the same rate.

So what can be done? Check out the infographic below to see how the gap between education and skills can be closed, or you could always create your own job by starting a business!
