Break out areas are considered to be one of the best ways to maintain a high level of energy and creativity in the work space. This is especially true for small businesses where unique and creative ideas can lead to tremendous success.
For the last three years Insomniac Games has been ranked amongst the top 10 companies on the ‘50 Best Small & Medium Sized Companies to Work for in America’ list by the Great Place to Work Institute. The company attributes its success to its ability to maintain great break out areas such as massage therapy Mondays, a putting green, space for team games such as volley ball and Nerf Gun wars.
Sadly latest research in U.K. by YouGov on behalf of MWB Business Exchange showed that a dismal 6% of firms provided break out areas. 21% respondents said that their choice of employer was dependent upon the availability of break out areas. This was especially true for the 18 to 24 and 25 to 35 years old age group.
It is essential that small businesses provide their employees space and time to interact without being bothered by phone calls or being restricted by an official meeting scenario.
