Mobile Technology Usage in Small Firms

The results of the quarterly survey of British small businesses by the Open University are in and the latest edition has a special focus on the rapid growth of mobile technology and its impact on small firms.

Despite this growth, only 36% of firms have access to both static and mobile internet. Over half (56%) are limited by their static internet connection and the remaining 2% only use a mobile connection to run their business.

Most of the businesses use their static internet connections for general communication with their clients or customers and checking their bank account, but less than a fifth are currently using cloud-based providers to manage their Back Office (however this is significantly more than the 8% figure from two years ago).

Security is still a major concern to the majority of these businesses and could be significantly holding back cloud adoption.
