The majority of small business owners are classed as being self-employed. Whilst we all know that this has many great benefits (“Freedom from bosses forever” is one that springs to mind!), there are a few drawbacks that I saw pointed out on Work Your Way earlier.
For one thing, you most likely will not be part of a company pension scheme, whereas if you had a job in an office somewhere both you and your employer would be contributing to your fund with every paycheck you receive.
When you are self-employed, you are your own boss and no-one will be contributing to a pension on your behalf so it is important to think more carefully about the way you save your money.
