In an interesting piece by the BBC’s global business correspondent Peter Day, he recalls the one interview that sticks out in his memory.
That interview was with the former chief executive of the computer chip manufacturer Intel, Andy Grove. According to Day, Grove was a man who was very seriously concerned with future threats to the success of Intel to the point of paranoia. Indeed, he even wrote a book on the topic titled “Only the Paranoid Survive“.
The article also suggests that businesses might ultimately sow the seeds of their own destruction by becoming successful. They get so caught up on their own products and the development of their business that they fail to notice the marketplace changing around them.
Are you paranoid about the future of business and do you think this is a good character trait to have?
