Stand out from your competitors and make 2014 the year that you start harnessing the power of blogging

Recently, I was trawling through my Evernote store of articles when I came across a Social Media Examiner article from a few months ago called: Blogging a Top Focus for Marketers and Other Trends Shown in New Research.

Before I go on, I must say that I use Evernote to ‘clip’ and store articles that, I believe, may make a useful base for future blog posts.

Anyway, when I re-read the Blogging a Top Focus for Marketers and Other Trends Shown in New Research I thought I’d use it to get a New Year resolution ‘nudge’ in first.

The research says that:

“When asked what social media platform they wanted most to master, 62% of marketers said blogging, putting it in first place slightly ahead of Google+. This answer is consistent with other studies, which show that the appetite for blogging education is growing.”

However, if we think about the research findings we need to recognise that there is a difference between wanting to do something and actually doing something.

The truth is that while many marketers want to know more about blogging, most of them won’t do anything. That’s just the way it is.

But, that’s where the opportunity lies for you and your business.

If you want to learn more about blogging, if you want to add blogging to your business and marketing mix, whether it is for:

  • Thought leadership
  • Enhanced customer service
  • SEO driven marketing
  • Celebrating your customers
  • Telling stories about your and your customers’ successes
  • etc
  • etc

….then, don’t think about doing it. Just do it.

Start, by figuring out what you’re going to blog about (your themes and your categories), brainstorm some ideas and get cracking.

Remember: You don’t have to know everything before you start something.

Stand out from your competitors and make 2014 the year that you start harnessing the power of blogging.
