UK online spending increases

Latest OFCOM figures have shown that online spending for the UK in 2012 increased on average by 16% per person compared to 2011. This meant an increased average spend of £1,175 compared to £1,017 the previous year, more than double the average spend per head of other countries in the survey.

This is, according to OFCOM, because UK shoppers have greater trust and confidence in the security of their online retailers. They also benefit from having cheaper access to smartphones and broadband deals than other countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the US.

In Germany, for example, the proportion of household income spent on communication deals was 3.4% in comparison to 2.3% in the UK and 2.5% in the US. The greater competition in the UK is helping to drive prices down.

We hope that your small business has an online infrastructure in place to deal with the increased Christmas traffic!
