Tablet computers never really caught on until the launch of the iPad in 2010. Although there had been high profile attempts in the past (Microsoft launched their Pocket PC in 2000, for example) the iPad was a perfect storm of functionality, affordability and coolness.
Now, nearly four years later, the tablet has become ubiquitous and is widely used in small businesses and even in lines of work such as healthcare, where it would be impractical to carry a laptop around.
